Overcome the Nightmare of Godaddy Domain Registraton Process

HOW TO OVERCOME THE NIGHTMARE OF GODADDY DOMAIN REGISTRATION PROCESS:

The other day, I had to put my computer on drips after a nightmare domain registration process on Godaddy.com. By the way, the registration was not for me, but for a friend of mine. I personally would never consider Godaddy for any of my transactions. Anyone ever buying something from the Godaddy website would recall wading through half an hour of “knee deep promotional sh*t” just to buy a simple product. And yeah, don’t be surprised by their cover girls; Godaddy’s motto “Supermodels over service” sums it all up.

It may take a genius to figure out how Godaddy works, therefore, I came up with this blog post to guide newbies on how to go about registering a domain name at Godaddy.com, without the extras that come with the promotion on every page of the registration and checkout process.

The registration process

Firstly,

go to the registration page. Fill in the details, taking notice not to opt for their email promotions, unless you wanna be bombarded with loads of junk in your inbox.

Next click on the home link, and start a domain name search. Next page will display whether your name choice is available and in what extensions. Godaddy is lame in its choice of domain extensions they offer, nevertheless, you can choose domain names from any of the major TLDs.

Unless you want to buy more products, such as multiple TLD registrations and web hosting, you should avoid all the pages upon pages of promotion. Just click “Proceed to Checkout”. You can still expect some advertising here too, just ignore them by clicking “No thanks. Continue to checkout”.

The next page, “Registration and Checkout Options” is a bit tricky…of course, its their way to victimize unsuspecting individuals. Just don’t click “Continue” on this page; the default selections are often set at maximum values. Select your registration length, certified or un-certified seal options, hosting/email options and the type of registration here. Scroll to the bottom of the page, and in the select checkout preference section, select “customize my order”, or “No thanks. I’m ready to checkout” if you are satisfied with the default settings. Click “Continue”.

Ignore the hosting and storage plan options on the next page, and make sure you click “Skip this offer” button. Finally you land on a page where you can enter your coupon codes (Google for Godaddy coupon codes…there are plenty of them). Click “Apply Code”.

Next select your payment method. I strongly advise against credit card method as Godaddy is notorious for holding onto this information and anyone with unauthorized access to your account can make purchases on your credit card. Agree to their Universal Terms of Service and click “Checkout Now”. The next page will prompt you to enter your billing details and confirm the order. This is the final step in your domain registration process at Godaddy.

And yes, don’t forget to put your computer on drips too
